 Crime Facts Disclaimer
Untitled Document

In accordance with Public Act 319 of 1968, you are about to access crime data reported to the Michigan State Police by Michigan law enforcement agencies. The Michigan State Police provides access to these statistics and compiled reports for the purpose of studying the causes, trends and effects of crime in this state and for intelligence upon which to base programs of crime detection and prevention and the apprehension of criminals.

Each year, the crime data is frozen on a specific date for purposes of publishing the annual Crime in Michigan report and for this website. This data never changes. Those dates are as follows:

  • 2008 crime data - 10/23/2009
  • 2009 crime data - 3/31/2010
  • 2010 crime data - 3/14/2011
  • 2011 crime data - 3/13/2012
  • 2012 crime data - 3/12/2013
  • 2013 crime data - 3/13/2014
  • 2014 crime data - 4/9/2015
  • 2015 crime data - 3/28/2016
  • 2016 crime data - 5/12/2017
  • 2017 crime data - 3/15/2018
  • 2018 crime data - 3/25/2019
  • 2019 crime data - 3/11/2020

It should be noted that during the year-end process for the 2007 data, the MICR system was being converted from a Mainframe to an Oracle environment and this delayed the freezing of the data. While the Michigan State Police makes every attempt to collect and compile complete and accurate crime data from all Michigan law enforcement agencies, other circumstances may impact reporting. Therefore, the Michigan State Police make no representation, express or implied, that the information contained on this website is complete or accurate.

Individuals using these statistics or reports are cautioned against making direct comparisons between cities or townships on the basis of population. Comparisons may lead to simplistic and/or incomplete analyses that could create misleading perceptions adversely affecting communities and their residents. The Michigan State Police is not responsible for any errors or omissions produced by secondary dissemination of this information.
